Today I’d like to do something fun. It’s the first Essential Prose contest, and it’s slightly ridiculous.
A while back, I bought the domain www.NakedCreativity.com in a flurry of inspired excitement. Alas, the excitement died down and I found neither the time nor the motivation to make a website worthy of such a domain name.
The contest is simple. If you have an awesome idea for the Naked Creativity website, write your idea in the comments below. The contest will end at 11:59pm EST on Thursday, June 11th, at which point I will choose the most brilliant idea. The person with the most brilliant idea wins the domain!
I really just think it’s a domain that deserves something wonderful/hilarious/insane on it, so I’m turning to you all to see what you’ve got.
If there are too many good ideas, I may need to enlist a trusty judge to help me out.
Also, it’s not required for entering the contest, but I’d love for you Tweet about the contest, and subscribe to this blog so you can find out who the winner is!
Fire away! You have one week to win this spectacular domain.
[Note: Including XXX content or nudity in your idea isn't a prerequisite for winning... I promise.]

Naked Creativity is where you come to learn and share all about being creative WITHOUT high tech or costly devices. Naked Creativity = connecting with the world of people, and learning and applying stripped-down, clean, clear, truly creative solutions to all types of problems.
I would turn Naked Creativity into a social network.
To me, naked creativity is showing your bare emotions through creative expression. No barriers, no rules, no facades. Just pure emotion and limitless resources to share yourself with the world.
I would create an outlet for artists to share their profound, truthful work. Be it a video, photograph, sculpture, website, manipulation, song, dance etc. I would provide opportunities for possible collaborations between like-minded artists. I would also post articles showcasing random inspiration and originality found throughout the world.
And maybe a naked body here and there
NakedCreativity.com is the future home of the Church of Naked Creativity, a relatively new movement based on the belief that all of Leonardo da Vinci’s greatest works were produced while he was in the nude. The church’s belief system further states that to bring about world peace we must all unite in naked creativity, a practice not unlike singing opera in the shower.
Peoples of the world unite! The time has come to combine our creative ingenuity in bearing witness that peace will not come by political reform or hunger strikes, but by the sound of our reverberating voices within the walls of our own shower.
Stay naked, my friends.
The first thing that comes to mind is the vast array of creative, nude self-portraits via would-be and professional/art photographers published on Flickr. These are not pornographic, but very (for lack of a more sophisticated term) artsy. They are also, most often, full of emotion. So, I envision a site that posts content from Flickr users, links to their work, etc., and possibly posts some of the longer posts or explanations these photographers often given. Not very zany, but that’s my first idea. I certainly could never write in the nude…hahahaha! I suppose you could include photos (accept submissions) for other nakedness – like feet, hands, knees. I do see this as a photography site.
On another note, (speaking of art), I have finished reading the art and money guide. It is chock full of so much useful information, and many new/fresh links. That was nice. The interviews – fantastic. Loved them. Epecially Hazel when she talks about artists need people to see their art. This really resonated with me. Literary artists need this, too, but so often, writers feel terrible about marketing their content. It’s relegated to ruthless self promotion. And, yet, the passion it takes to create art, poetry, etc., does not die or fall into a stupor when the work of art is complete. A bird was born to sing.
I believe this is a tremendous asset to me in my virtual pr shop. I will need to read it again and again. One thing that was especially compelling to me is viewing this information through a generational lens. I worked in public funding for the arts for several years. And, one of the greatest challenges to the arts was audience development. By implementing the ideas and suggestions in this book, artists have an opportunity to increase the size of their audience. This is good for the artist, but this is very, very good for public funding for the arts. Why? Because growing an appreciation for art means more demands for art. At one time, the Boomers worried that there would be nobody left to love art. Now, its gangbusters, I think. Generation Y is blazing a trail, and you’re part of that with this guide. But, Gillbeau, he’s a classic Xer. We can take some credit, no? I wrote a post sometime ago in which I mentioned the odd contrast between the artists who starve creating art the affluent buy. The guide can help artists imagine a different kind of contrast. For me, personally, as a writer, I found the interviews very inspiring.

naked creativity is where the artist uses no technology and contrivances like paints & canvas or board, no special clay or ceramic media specially designed for art, no pens no pencils, no paper in the traditional use of it for writing or drawing, no rubber, no adhesive tape and no glue unless sap from a plant like latex
naked creativity can be expressed anywhere – at the beach – in the wood – in the garden
what’s important is that the artist uses the available artifacts/materials
making a daisy chain
building a sand castle but it should be crafted with the hands or use of other parts of the body to shape the sand
a driftwood sculpture but use seaweed or other flotsam to adorn or tie it together – no nails and definitely no hammering
a sculpture of leaves and fallen branches, fallen limbs from trees, peeling bark, fungus, maybe a rock or more
a river sculpture of rocks for the water to cascade over as in a waterfall
a caveman style painting by chewing fruit and using the juice on the bark of a tree or rock face, such as that in a cave or cliff side,
squirting the juice from the mouth or applying it with the hands or other body parts is fine
you don’t have to be naked to do it, but it might be expedient if you happen to have worn your best clothes to the site – now that’d be real-naked creativity
posing as does a mime artist, naked if you like but certainly not with face-paint or body-paint
dancing singing speaking poetry, but nor reciting it – rather making it on the spot (hard I know but some can do this well)
lighting a fire, without matches or lighter and roasting edible root found on the site such as sweet potato or other edible tuber and eating the delicious cooked vegetables
in fact, all the things one might be creative about when on a camp but without the carried or imported technology – certainly no digitals – out, out, out brief candle, that means no candles either

Unedited writing.
It would be a blog-ish platform where users could post their thoughts and network with others. The kicker would be that when they logged in and started typing, it was all automatically saved and posted. No editing like in blogs. No deleting entries like in twitter.
The nakedness is that you really just get it out there as it comes out of your head. The creativity is all the zaniness that might follow.
Amber´s last blog post..My super secret formula for crafting awesome cover letters
I really like Amber’s idea. It could be something as simple as a twitter-ish application, but like she says, it auto-saves and has no delete feature. The benefit would come from the networking ability–to network with other creative types. Looking at Google Wave a little, you’ll see it has a lot of the functionality that we would need (ie see-it-as-you-type chat, conversations, document collaboration), and we could use those APIs to code it up.
My uncle once told me that nudists (literal & figurative terms) are people with a different kind of insanity/freedom/unpretentiousness in self and body image. They’ve got nothing to lose, not even secrets to keep.
So naked creativity is everything that all the previous commentators have wonderfully defined.
What I’m concerned about is, since nudity isn’t allowed by the general public – and the general public’s sense of okay/not okay is different from one geographic area to then next, then wouldn’t naked creativity be something that allows tasteful glimpses of a person’s soul, without offending everybody?
Something like this perhaps?
